Sew, What do I Wear- Vacation Edition

I am back for another round of “Sew, What do I Wear” brought to you by Made for Mermaids and Patterns for Pirates. The M4M and P4P teams have come together to bring you a week full of vacation style inspiration. It has been a fun week of posts by some of my favorite women so be sure to check out the blogs below!

My family had our summer vacation way back in April due to my husband and I both having crazy work schedules. A week in Florida meant plenty of me made summer looks which I shared here. I realized I had a few holes in my wardrobe, especially when it came to cover ups for the beach and the pool. We will be at the pool a lot this summer, so there is no time like the present to make a couple of new items to cover up my swimsuits. I browsed through my patterns and came up with two M4M patterns that would make for amazing cover ups with the right fabric.

I picked up this Aztec stretch lace knit at Hobby Lobby and knew immediately that it had to be a Mama Isabel cover up.

Back during testing, someone mentioned it would make a great cover up, and they were right. I decided on a short sleeve, tulip dress length version. I ended up making the neckband slightly wider than the pattern calls for to add a little more coverage. I also left the edges raw.

This is a fully functional wrap dress pattern making it easy to take on and off.

I love how this fabric shows off a little skin, but it still provides great backside coverage.

If you happened to catch the M4M blog post about Mama Isabel hacks back during the release, Megan showed how to turn the wrap into a long duster. Well, I decided to tie mine back like Megan to make a more casual robe styling, too.

I wore my Patterns for Pirates Hello Sailor bottoms (fabric from Purple Seamstress) paired with a ready to wear swim top. I also have a matching flounce Siren Swim Top, but it doesn’t look great with the crossover Mama Isabel. Here are two photos I took of the matching Siren top back when I made the suit.

Overall, the Mama Isabel was perfect for providing just enough coverage for me to move around and sit while still feeling comfortable.

On to my mom look. Because I am a mom of two little boys, I thought a Romper coverup would be very functional for running around the pool.

I loved the floral Mama Lea Romper I made last year due to its easy style, so I took a crochet knit from JoAnn to make this look.

The crochet pattern makes the cover up lightweight and allows for quick drying.

Although I forgot to take a picture of the swimsuit underneath, the blousey drape of the bodice allowed for a flounce version of the Siren Swim Top to fit underneath!!!
